It's tough selling one-of-a-kind items to one-of-a-kind people.
"It's tough selling one of a kind items to one of a kind people." The wise words of a customer resonated with us. The accuracy was so spot on that we took her words and created a blog post.
She is correct. Each piece we sell at Guru is one-of-a-kind. The nature of upcycling, which makes up the majority of our production, will only allow us the option of creating unique pieces. The bright side? Our loyal customers get original pieces. The downside... it takes a bit of work to get to that point.
We have developed a way to breakdown our prints by colour palettes made up of 4 colour ways. Brights, Pastels, Earth tones, and Saturated. We have examples of what those prints can potentially look like. When an order is placed we text the customer and ask if they would like to see up to 3 prints before we ship. They then select one of those three prints and we ship! That bit of correspondence does help our customers receive something they are completely happy with, which also allows us to avoid returns, therefore using less packaging.
Alternatively, customers can select their colour way and make notes of what colours they prefer. From there we can still offer 3 photos by text, or they can leave it up to us and make it a surprise. A lot like a subscription box.
